Since I could only find 1 thread on this amp at TDPRI, I thought I better post about it...
It is a 60W tube amp (6L6) 1-12" that (apparently) was Peavey's answer to the Mesa Boogie or so the all-knowing Internet says. It is a 3 channel amp and without the foot-switch you only have access to the Ultra channel (as opposed to the Clean and Crunch channels). Of course, this one did not have the foot switch (and they cost $70-80). Apparently the amp and sat for a long time, they had it marked down from $249 to $175 and took $150 for it. $150 for a 3 channel 60W tube amp!!!??? I couldn't say no...
Since I am cheap, I didn't want to pay for the correct switch. With a little work, I was able to mod a used Marshall pedal that I bought at the same store for $20 to do the channel switching. I also did the two mods that are widely discussed for this amp (bypassing the gating diodes and clipping a jumper to disable the "fat" circuit). While I didn't try the other channels before the mods, they made a huge difference in the sound of the Ultra channel. All three channels sound great so far and can do a huge range of sounds.
I am amazed that these amps are so overlooked and under-priced??
Do u have the info for this mod or know where I can find it? I have the very same amp and I have already changed the speaker to a WGS ET65 and now I want to do the mods for the tone clipping mod and EQ mod. and I would like a detailed inf on doing so maybe even with pictures if possible.

You may want to try the clipping diode mod and the "Fat" disable. That my fix your dynamics and EQ issues with the drive channels.
Do u have info on this mod???

The 120W version with the Scorpion Plus is NOT a light amp by any means!

I had bought this head when Peavey first came out with it. I played it for 15+ years. It WAS my tone. It went up in smoke one evening at a jam. Every time I think of that day I still feel like someone punched me in the gut. I've never found it's equal. The single BEST sounding amp I've ever owned. The clean channel was incredible, the crunch would do anything I needed, but for my needs the ultra channel was unusable. Way, way too much gain and really hard to tame feedback at high volume.
If ever I have the cash and can find one again, it's mine for sure.

I paid about £699 in 1990 approx brand new. Gary Moore's Still got the blues album was out so it will be about right.
What can I say: Very heavy little mutha Futha but as amps go it's a killer.
Should really be commanding big money, and may become a classic in time, if not already.
2 power tubes and 1 pre amp tube means it's a bit cheaper to service too, and certainly cheaper than my old Gibson with 4 power and 7 pre amp tubes. Folk don't often consider this when buying a used amp, but tubes cost a fortune in the UK.
Occasionally you see them sold cheaply as folk don't know what they have, but it will have it's day, and certainly I'd be wanting most of my money back if I were to sell it, as it's easily as good an amp as any other semi-vintage amp out there, and will handle all the styles too which you can't say about Fender or Marshall, let's face it.
This amp roars baby.

How are the cleans? Can it get a Black-Face tone?
Do you need to use window - rattling volume before good tones kick in?I think the selection & prices of used Peaveys out there is incredible - There is a huge amount of amps available for $75 - $300. There are so many, it is hard to pick one out. The only downside is excessive weight & volume.
Week after week, I see Special 125,Bandits,Heritage,Deuce,etc. for $75-200 on CL,Guitar Center, etc. and usually at the low end of the scale.
If you go here : http://ironstone-guitar-pickups.co.uk/strat-sound-clips-gold/ the track Time to say goodbye is the Triumph 60 played in the kitchen at a volume that would annoy the neighbours, but not quite stage volume.
No foot pedal used, so it was probably the Ultra channel you can hear, and it will probably have been with about 30% drive as I wanted to hear the pickups that the guy had kindly sent me at the time, so recorded a quick track for his sound clips, so it's not engineered at all, and no pedals, and just recorded with an SM57 straight into the desk.

There was a posting on the local Craigslist for a Peavey Triumph amp for $125. I remember a friend having one years ago and he raved about what a great amp it was.
I was talking to a friend (luthier, owns a local shop) and he looked-up the value listed in the latest "Vintage Guitar Buyers Guide" and it turned out to be the typical going rate for a used Peavey Triumph.

Add me to the club!! Just picked up an early Triumph 60 combo for $100 off Craigslist. Not a mark on it, original tubes, with the foot switch and vinyl cover. Wasn't really looking for this ( or any other ) amp...just a byproduct of obsessively checking the musical instrument section of Craigslist several times each day. Saw the price, googled the specs and this thread came up in the search results.
My application will be playing pedal steel and lap steel through it. The clean channel has a beautiful tone. It will be fun experimenting with the crunch and ultra channels. I can tell you this...pairing the sustain of a steel guitar with this much gain is sooooo cool.

Well, after messing with this amp for a week, I just can't get into it. The clean channel has a great tone but doesn't behave as I was expecting... it doesn't seem too responsive to picking dynamics, it just stays clean. The crunch and ultra channels are pretty much one trick ponies also. They sound good enough for the sounds they are after but if you want something more subtle, it's just not there. The whole thing actually behaves more like an old solid state amp than all tube with its lack of dynamics. Even tweaking the pre and post on the crunch and ultra channels don't seem to tweak anything but overall volume. The tone pretty much stays the same regardless of settings or volume.
None of the common mods have been done. The tone stack mod seems like it would be a welcome feature. I think a more traditional speaker would also bring out some more dynamics. Would these mods make this thing more versatile?

I've been using an Encore 65 I got last year for $50.00, it's pretty much a JCM 800 combo clone, really nice. Could use a Sheffield or a Celestion, although the Scorpion is OK for the little I use the amp, neighbors, you know.

It's been a very long time. I just downloaded the schematic off the Internet and determined which pins needs to be connected together to turn things on and off. As I remember, I ended up modifying the amp side as it was easier than modifying the footswitch. It's just a matter of figuring out what the switch you have does with a meter and making it line up with what the amp needs to see.
