These are by far the best black bean burgers I have had. I'm so glad I made them. I'm tired of reading ingredients in the frozen aisle. These are a keeper! I made a double batch and they are gone now. Time to make another batch.

Added more garlic and cooked the patties longer til browned. Served with ¼ link chorizo and soft-boiled eggs instead of fried. Very good dinner. (made 2nd time using Serious Eats prep tip: spread drained beans on cookie sheet, bake 20min @ 350F, then follow recipe)

This recipe was really good the only reason I gave it a two was because I changed it up a bit from its original recipe. I didn't have any green onions so I used red onions and white onions, also I toped it with friend portabellas, Greek yogurt, and smashed avocado. It was really good and my husband and the kids loved it. Where trying not to eat so much meat and this was a perfect meal

I had been meaning to make this for about a year and finally got around to it. I wish I had sooner. This is one of the best bean cake recipes I've found from CL. My husband wished I had made a double batch! I used 2 garlic cloves instead of one and it gave it great flavor. The salad and egg were also really good with it. I also had to cook the patties a couple more mins on each side than specified. But it did come together pretty fast.

My husband and I really liked this dish! I thought the salad needed a little something sweet, so I added pears, which was a great addition. Goat cheese & pistachio nuts would also be a good addition to the salad. I loved the bean cakes and thought the egg was a good pairing. However, it still seemed a tiny bit dry to me, so next time I will try adding a spoonful of sour cream on top of the bean cakes and maybe garnish on top of that with some green onions. Will enjoy experimenting with this one! **update** I added a spoonful of sour cream and a couple slices of avocado to the bean cake and it was DELICIOUS.

Loved this! Easy and fast and tastes great. I could see trying to experiment with adding in some additional ingredients next time, like some mushrooms or red bell pepper. Will definitely add to my regular rotation.

I loved these. I did make a few modifications. Used garbanzo beans because I had them on hand and didn't realize I was out of black beans. I also added a little extra cumin, red pepper, and cilantro. With the vinaigrette I added just a little brown sugar and warmed it up a little in the microwave before tossing it in the greens (baby kale) My husband was very skeptical of this recipe when I was making it but we both loved it. He went back for seconds. Presentation was very pretty. Will definatly make again!

I really like these; however, I've adapted the recipe. We make the black bean cakes smaller and serve them with lettuce cups and tahini sauce (tahini, natural yogurt, lemon juice, garlic). Absolutely delicious!

I really loved these! I don't know how anyone could think they're bland unless they just didn't use enough salt. I'm usually someone who DOUBLES spices in recipes, but I followed the recipe for the cakes themselves almost exactly (I just omitted the cilantro), and I thought they were lovely. I also served them with poached eggs instead of fried, and I definitely recommend the substitution. Maybe this is a regional thing, but black bean cakes with eggs are pretty common brunch fare where I live, so it didn't seem weird to me at all. Brunch for dinner! I only wish I could get them to be a little firmer. They didn't crumble too badly, but I had to use two flat spatulas to flip them.

I made this when my vegetarian granddaughter was here for dinner. It was a big hit with everyone including the carnivores.

We made this tonight and it was delicious! I had to add a little bit of cornmeal to the patty mixture to thicken it up and also added a tiny pinch of salt to the patties once they were done cooking. So great, well seasoned and my entire family, including the two year old, loved it! For the best bite, make sure you get a little bit of everything, including the salad, on your fork - the flavors are so complimentary!

We use a 1 through 10 rating system in our house and this is the first 2 my husband ever issued. I am on a diet, and thought this was decent as "diet" food, but the cakes were really bland and serving them with a fried egg really didn't make sense. I am sure there cakes could have been ok served on a bun with BBQ sauce and fixings, but served on a plate next to an egg? Blah.

Really simple and tasty. Not worthy of a special occasion, more like an awesome weeknight meal, but I will definitely make this again! I added chopped tomato to the salad because I had it on hand, but I wouldn't make the salad without it! One of my patties fell apart, so I might add another egg-white to the mixture to help hold it together a little better, but that might have been my fault for man-handeling it in the pan too much.

I enjoy this so much that I made it for the second time tonight. I really like the way the egg yolk mixed with the black bean cake tastes.

In my opinion, this was just ok. I know my black beans weren't soft enough (I used fresh), so I'm sure that was part of the reason. However, I've made CL's Southwestern Falafel with Avocado Spread which I really like. I think this needs a bit of sauce like that one had. I'll stick with the other falafel recipe, but thanks Cooking Light for trying!

We really enjoyed this recipe, the flavors of the black bean cakes were delicious and slightly mediterranean (like a black bean falafel!) I had to mix in extra panko to bind the bean mixture as mine was a bit runny and didn't hold the patty shape when I followed the recipe. Otherwise, fast and easy and will definitely make again.

These were great! Made exactly as is (except used seasoned panko, since that's all I had) and we really enjoyed all three components. The egg does seem a strange addition but it really complemented the bean cake.

We really enjoyed this dish. The dressing on the salad is light and fresh. The black bean cakes were delicious. The egg seemed a bit out of place. Next time, I'll skip the egg and add tomato and maybe some queso fresco to the salad.
