Its our last tekMeetup of the year this Thursday at JobAdder! Waaaa. So heres whats happening at tekMeetup this Thursday; “You're a senior dev, so whats next?”.This is looking to be a great event and is, what I think, a great topic. The night is aimed to add value to the software engineering community, in particular, senior engineers who are thinking of embarking on a career as a tech lead or just moving away from the code in general. We have a panel of 3 engineering leaders, all of which have made that transition already and will share their stories and answer questions.Mouna Neelakantas talk is titled"Becoming a 1st time Tech Lead"; Mouna has recently had a group of engineers step up to Tech Leads or PEs in her teams and being in these roles for the first time, are navigating challenges they’ve never experienced before. Mouna will be sharing stories, tips and questions on various tools & techniques that have helped them.Dions talk is titled "Balancing the 3 facets of an engineering leadership role; Engineering Excellence, Delivery Speed and Team happiness. For each of the 3 areas, Dion will share 2-3 points that make individuals stand out as high performers, as well as how to read the room/peers/stakeholders to decipher if you are performing (incase feedback from manager is sparse). Those 3 areas are key to technical leadership roles as well as people leadership roles. Most people looking to step up from a senior engineer role are never quite sure on if they want to go into people leadership or technical leadership, or both. But focusing on these 3 aspects, it keeps their doors open to jump between the 2 until they have found their sweet spot.Lastly, Paulwyn will be discussing;"Technical leadership at start ups Vs Corporates". The differences between working as a senior/lead engineer in startups/scaleups vs established companies, from both a technical perspective as well as a personal/career growth perspective, the same role title could mean very different expectations at a startup vs an established company. Extending this further, Paulwyn will explore how the choice of company can impact long term career trajectory... and the best bit? Its a free event brought to you by tekFinder with food & drink provided also. Link in the comment section below.#meetup #networking #community

"Tu Beer hai!" 🍻How many of you can relate to this famous dialogue from one of the best series on Start Up ecosystems, TVF Pitchers? This post isn't about the series, though I highly recommend it; it's about Hackathons! If you've watched TVF Pitchers, you'll recall a scene where our beloved Jitu bhaiya leaves the company, leaving the team scrambling to find a CTO. They go through rounds of walk-ins, agencies, and interviews, engaging their best Engineers for hiring. However, they struggle to find the right fit. For any company, it's crucial that the CTO or any technical hire understands the tech stack and possesses the skills to build, guide, and scale the product.Instead of relying on referrals or gut feelings, they choose to conduct a Hackathon! Why? Because through Hackathons, you can be assured that:- Participants are genuinely interested and dedicated, completing multiple phases of the hackathon without dropping out.- Coding is done live in a proctored environment, minimizing cheating.- Participants can be tested on teamwork, attitude, and niche skills.- The selected individual is more likely to be a perfect fit for the role compared to someone hired through referrals. Moreover, Hackathons are cost-effective, saving the bandwidth of every engineer involved in hiring and eliminating the need for filtration rounds.Stay tuned for more advantages of conducting a Hackathon in the follow-up posts! Are you still sticking to traditional hiring methods, or are you ready to explore the world of Hackathons? #Hackathon #Innovation #TechRecruitment #TVFPitchers #StartupEcosystems #RecruitmentStrategy #hackerearth

🚀 TechNative Academy update - final group nearly ready to go! 🎉We were blown away by the interest in joining our March Developer bootcamp, which saw over 1,000 registrations, and 100+ candidates pushing through a demanding application process to showcase their incredible talent and passion for tech. We are down to a final 16 to interview this week. The quality of the applicants was really high. Many were well over-qualified for the bootcamp, with computer science degrees and prior experience in the industry. For many, even with this background, they just cannot get a foot in the door into the industry. We had to prioritise applications from those who have not yet had this opportunity, but we are working hard to see what other support TechNative can offer other in the future. Our final interviewees showed independent thinking, enthusiasm and imagination in their applications and a keen eye for logic, perfect for budding developers! Nearly all of them were already on their journey into tech, teaching themselves skills and starting their own projects in their own time. These self-taught gems and aspiring professionals have blown us away with their potential. 😊A big shoutout to our employer sponsors, DabApps and Certn, who are not just providing the opportunity for candidates to move into full time employment at the end of the course, but are working with us to make sure the course provides the exact skills that their business needs. Real life learning guided by employers who know first hand what it takes to be successful. This Bootcamp isn't just free; it's a direct pathway into the tech world, tailored by industry professionals. 🌟 What's Next? - Next week we will select out final 8 candidates and start the bootcamp mid March. Two of our gang will be offered jobs at our sponsors and we are actively seeking employers for the rest of the group.🔍 For tech employers seeking new talent: Join us in propelling tech careers forward. If you are based in the South East of England and are looking to bring on a junior developer into your team and want to shape that journey now, please get in touch!🥳 Launch event: We will be hosting a launch event in Brighton in the spring, lookout for more details! Level-up your software engineer career development through other people’s stories: meet Max Rudman , CEO of Prodly, who went from IC to CEO and even founded his own startup throughout his career. In this talk with Fancy Karolina Tóth, he shares interesting insights about climbing the career ladder as a software engineer, and gives valuable advice to people aspiring to go on a managerial and technical path as well. Excerpt from the post: “Both in entrepreneurship and product management, you have to say no to a lot more things than you say yes to. How to decide between a yes and a no boils down to what you’re focusing on: what kind of customers you’re serving or what problems you’re trying to solve. Based on this, you can differentiate between opportunities and see what would make your solution stand out in the market. At the beginning of the founding journey, your resources are usually very limited, so you’ll have to be very picky about what you say yes to.”Link in the comment section!#engineeringmanagement #leadership #ic #ceo #fromictoceo #careerdevelopment
