Being fit and healthy is more popular than ever in today's health-conscious society. Despite being trendy, many men and women in our country still find it hard to shed unwanted pounds. They stick to a healthy diet and go to the gym on a regular basis but still aren't able to achieve the weight loss results they crave. They notice stubborn fat deposits around areas like the arms, stomach, and neck. What is Obesity and What Causes the Disease?

When you become a member of our weight loss clinic in Alpharetta, GA, you'll learn quickly that obesity is a multifaceted disease. It's most often characterized by the accumulation of excessive body fat. Though it's typically characterized as a cosmetic concern, it's actually a serious medical problem that increases your risk of severe health complications. Often, obese individuals find it challenging to shed weight due to environmental, genetic, and physiological factors.

Our FDA-approved program includes:

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (9)

Not Enough Sleep

Lack of sleep can have negative impacts on your body as it can lead to increased appetite and hormonal changes, ultimately causing obesity. It's very important that you get enough sleep to maintain your well-being, and by proxy, your weight.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (10)

Medications and Health Conditions

Some hormone problems, as well as certain medications, can lead to weight gain. This includes conditions like an underactive thyroid, Cushing syndrome, and polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as medications like antidepressants, corticosteroids, and seizure medications.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (11)

Empty Calories

Popular beverages like beers and sodas are chock-full of liquid calories that never fill you up. Mix in dehydration from lack of water and a poor diet, and you've got an equation that almost always equals obesity.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (12)

Constant Stress

We live in a day and time where stress from work and from life is a prevalent as obesity. When you're stressed, it's easy to give in and consume unhealthy foods like candies and burritos. While doing so can give you a short spike of dopamine, it won't last. Eating sweets and fast foods is one of the worst ways to deal with stress.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (13)

Genetics

Studies indicate that genetics can influence the development of obesity. In fact, certain genetic disorders, such as Prader-Willi syndrome, can lead directly to obesity. Genes may also make some individuals more susceptible to weight gain. However, researchers believe that other factors, such as a sedentary lifestyle or a diet rich in calorie-dense foods, are also necessary for a person to become overweight.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (14)

Sedentary Lifestyle

If you aren't very active on a daily basis, chances are you're eating more calories than your body is able to burn off. With the advent of smart devices and other popular entertainment options, living a sedentary life is more common than ever.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (15)

Poor Diet

This one is a no-brainer. If you only eat greasy burgers and carb-packed foods, you'll continue to gain weight.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (16)

Smoking Cessation

When you quit smoking, your body can literally breathe a breath of fresh air. However, quitting cigarettes and nicotine can also cause weight fluctuations. When left to spiral out of control, it can lead to obesity.

What are the Consequences of Living with Obesity?

Many obese Americans are shamed daily for how they look. It never feels good to be made fun of or stared at, but obese people have more to worry about than what others think. They are at risk for several fatal or long-term health issues. Many of those issues are among the leading causes of death in the U.S. Generally, the more you weigh, the greater chance you have of developing bad and even fatal complications such as:

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (17)

If you have one or more of the symptoms or conditions listed above, don't get too down on yourself. You're not destined to live an unhealthy life. When you choose medical weight loss help from a clinic like Innovative Health and Wellness, you can turn your life around and steer it toward a path of positivity and productivity.

Understanding the Dangers of Fad and Yo-Yo Diets

When you're obese and learn that you're at risk for major health events like heart attacks and strokes, it can make you anxious and want to lose weight ASAP. Unfortunately, many overweight people turn to fad diets and "lose weight quick" programs.

If you were to ask a random person on the street to name a trendy diet, they could probably name one, past or present. Diets like Paleo, South Beach Atkins, and Keto are well-known to most people. However, the issue with these diets is that they may not work for everyone, and even when they do, the outcomes are not always long-lasting.

Some common characteristics of unhealthy fad diets include:

  • Unrealistic and unhealthy weight loss practices
  • "Special" food sources that help weight "melt away"
  • Quick weight loss without needing to exercise or stick to a healthy diet
  • Fad diets are usually bad about prioritizing good nutrition. Instead, they tout extreme life choices or sketchy pills. While FDA-approved medicines such as Semaglutide injections have been shown to be effective when prescribed by a doctor, using a fad diet is counterproductive to healthy living.
  • If you're struggling with your weight, it is likely that you are feeling stressed and trying to find an effective solution. You may have already tried multiple fad diets, unsafe diet pills, or even invested in workout equipment that you never use. Yet, despite your best efforts, you're still struggling. If this sounds familiar, it could be because you never received clinical guidance at a weight loss clinic in Alpharetta, GA.
  • The most effective solution to your weight problem begins with a medical weight loss plan from Innovative Health and Wellness. Instead of following a fad diet, we encourage you to speak to one of our weight loss clinicians who can help you lose those unwanted pounds in an enjoyable, efficient manner that is tailored to your body, not someone else's.

Learn How to Exercise Safely and Effectively

Losing weight is not just about following a diet plan. It requires a complete change in lifestyle and an active routine. A medical weight loss program can assist you in learning about the best exercises for your body and current physical condition. Having a support system while dieting is crucial, and having an exercise counselor to keep you motivated and on track is often the key to success for those who find it difficult to commit to a workout schedule.

Our medical experts will guide you in understanding which exercises to do, how much and how often. They will also let you know when it's time to adjust your exercise regimen.

Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (24)

Lose Weight Safely

Using a weight loss clinic to help you lose weight isn't just effective - it's one of the safest ways to shed lbs., too. Without professional supervision from a weight loss clinician, you run the risk of:

  • Unbalanced nutrients and calories
  • Putting yourself under unneeded mental stress
  • Developing an eating disorder
  • Hurting yourself by exercising too much or exercising incorrectly
  • Becoming victim to yo-yo dieting and losing weight too fast

If you're looking to lose weight fast with no diet needed, it might be time to recalibrate your priorities. At Innovative Health and Wellness, our clinicians don't only focus on helping you lose weight. They also address issues related to hormone imbalances, physical therapy, high blood pressure, chiropractic concerns, and overall diet. Alpharetta - Innovative Health And Wellness (25)

Supervised Weight Loss and Exercise

People who are overweight and wish to start dieting or exercising should be careful not to do so without proper supervision. Without guidance, they may become frustrated, feel defeated, and ultimately either give up or revert to their old habits.

When a doctor supervises a weight loss program, you are more likely to follow the recommended diet and exercise routines because they are tailored to suit your specific needs. Target To Cut Prices On Thousands Of Household Items At GA Stores

GEORGIA — Thousands of essential items at Target stores, including Georgia locations, are getting a price cut as the major retailer acknowledged the impact of inflation on consumers' personal finances and spending habits.

The move reflects pushback from consumers reining in spending after years of inflation. It comes in response to the Fortune 100 company's first year-over-year sales decline in nearly a decade.

Consumers will notice lower price tags on staples such as milk, meat, bread, soda, snacks, coffee, diapers, paper towels and pet food. These price reductions aim to save consumers millions of dollars this summer, Target announced.

"We know consumers are feeling pressured to make the most of their budget, and Target is here to help them save more," said Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief food, essentials, and beauty officer at Target.

Some examples of specific items with lower prices include Thomas' Plain Bagles, which were $4.19 and are now reduced to $3.79. Target brand Good & Gather items such as unsalted butter, which was $3.99 and is now $3.79, and organic baby spinach, was $3.29 now $2.99, also have lower price tags.

Additional price reductions on everyday items include:

So far, 1,500 items at Target are sporting lower prices and the goal is to slash prices on about 5,000 items, Target said.

Americans spend, on average, $270 per week on groceries; in Georgia they spend $278, according to a recent study by HelpAdvisor. Households with children spend even more. Nationwide, they spend an average of $331.94 per week at the grocery store.

Shoppers have slowed their spend for the past year as costs have risen 20% to 30% higher than they were three years ago and as incomes failed to keep up, Sarah Wyeth, managing director, retail and consumer with S&P Global Ratings, recently told CNN.

"These new lower prices across thousands of items will add up to additional big savings for the millions of consumers that shop Target each week for their everyday needs," Gomez said.

According to KTLA, Target saw sales decline in 2023 for the first time since 2016. The current U.S. inflation rate is 3.4 percent, which declined compared to last month's 3.5 percent but is still above the Federal Reserve's target of 2 percent.

Last week, McDonald's said the fast-food giant plans to introduce a $5 meal deal in the U.S. next month to boost slowing sales and customers’ frustration with high prices, FOX Baltimore reported.

A short drive north of Atlanta, Alpharetta is the suburb that has it all. From 750 acres of green spaces and parks to a newly revamped downtown, there's never been a better time to visit Alpharetta. It has hundreds of restaurants and bustling attractions, which means there's something for everyone here. You'll find that families are just as comfortable exploring this town as, say, couples on a romantic getaway or friends looking for a fun weekend trip. When it comes to hotels, there's the recently opened Hamilton, a 119-room hotel located in downtown Alpharetta within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the amphitheater. Or there's the Hotel at Avalon, located in a popular mixed-use development and crowned with a rooftop pool. Whether you're popping in for the day or looking to stay awhile, here are 17 things you can't miss while in Alpharetta.

Embark On An Outdoor Adventure

A path that winds along Big Creek for about nine miles feels much further from the city than it actually is. Go for a stroll or ride your bike down the concrete path that runs parallel to North Point Parkway. When you reach the end of the path, you'll hit a mulch trail that circles around a wetland—keep your eyes open for blue herons, deer, and ducks.

Alpharetta is filled with arts and cultural experiences as well as outdoor adventure, and the Alpharetta Arts Walking Tour combines the two. The walk features may pieces of public art and sculpture that you can see with the help of this handy map, which offers information on each of the pieces.

If you're looking for room to roam, you'll find it at Wills Park. Wills Park & Arboretum has a walking trail, baseball fields, a playground, tennis courts, swimming pool, dog park, and much more. It's a great place to take the family for an afternoon of outdoor fun.

Do Some Shopping

You could seriously spend a whole day at Avalon (and not regret any of it). There's a stadium-seat movie theater if you're looking to catch a flick (good to know on rainy days) and there are green spaces where children can stretch their legs. Start at one end and work your way down with stops at shops like Williams-Sonoma and Bonobos. When you get hungry, grab a bite at a restaurant like Superica, Ford Fry's Tex-Mex joint, or maybe something sweet at Cafe Intermezzo.

Support local farmers and makers by shopping the city's downtown farmer's market on Saturdays. Located on the Town Green in front of Alpharetta City Hall, you'll find plenty of fresh produce, plus flowers, baked goods, and items like soap and jelly. It's open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from April 6 to November 23.

Downtown Alpharetta is the heart of the city with so much to discover. In the warmer months, there's a splash pad to cool off in and a field to stretch out on. If you're looking to treat yourself, there are chic clothing boutiques like Southern Local and the day spa Natural Body. If you want to enjoy a great meal, take your pick from casual cafe fare at Never Enough Thyme or opt for something more upscale like elevated American fare at Coalition.

Souvenir t-shirt? Snooze. Souvenir vinyl record? That's the ticket. Comeback Vinyl is located in downtown Alpharetta and has a wide selection of records. Buy yourself (or someone else) to one. Keep an eye out for their sidewalk sales.

Eat And Drink In Alpharetta

Open fire and Spanish cuisine are at the heart of this new dinner spot spearheaded by chef and restaurateur Julio Delgado, who also owns Minnie Olivia pizzeria nearby. Inspired by his grandfather who was a butcher in Puerto Rico, Fogón and Lions pays homage to Delgado's family roots with a menu that showcases Spanish, South and Central American, and Caribbean flavors. Dinner dishes range from Churrasco-style skirt steak to seafood paella to rotisserie chicken, all cooked on a 14-foot hearth.

Jekyll Island feels a bit closer when you visit Jekyll Brewing. There are two locations in Alpharetta to choose from—Marconi, not far from the Big Creek Greenway, and Alpharetta City Center. Both have refreshing beers like the Pineapple Habanero Hot Dang Diggity IPA. If you want a snack to go with that beer, there are nibbles like black bean quinoa falafel balls and heartier items such as burgers. Catch live music on the weekends.

You won't be able to resist the aroma of just-out-of-the-oven treats at this charming bakery and cafe. Hanh Nguyen realized a decades-long dream when she opened July Moon Bakery & Café at the Maxwell in Alpharetta in 2022. The bakery and café, named in honor of Nguyen’s daughters, offers Vietnamese iced coffees, boba teas, bánh mìs, specialty toasts, and classic desserts with an Asian twist. Try the Pandan Cinnamon Roll or Ube Chocolate Chip Cookie for a tasty and unexpected treat.

If you'd like to explore Alpharetta's cuisine options, catch the Food Truck Alley event, which lines up the area's best food trucks for a night of delicious eats. More than 10 food trucks are on hand each month for the family-friendly night, which takes place once a month on Old Roswell Street. Check the website for dates and times.

According to the Alpharetta travel bureau, "Nestled in downtown, Roaring Social transcends the typical speakeasy experience by curating a lineup of talented performers who grace the stage with diverse genres and captivating melodies." Depending on the night, you might hear jazz, pop, or rock, but you can be certain you'll have a memorable night of live music at this 20s-style speakeasy.

Valor is the total package. Amazing aesthetics thanks to a colorful espresso machine and disco ball hanging from the ceiling. Yes. Delicious coffee roasted in small batches? Yes. There's also a cute outdoor seating area and a snack menu if you get hungry.

Experience all the throwback joys of an old-fashioned soda counter and Andy's Frozen Custard. While you can order a float, shake, or sundae, Andy's specializes in Concretes and Jackhammers, a thick mixture of custard and custom mix-ins, like candy, cookies, and fruit.

Take In Alpharetta's Arts And Culture

Outdoor music performances are so of-the-moment and this amphitheater is a great place to enjoy them. Buy a ticket for a seat or plan on sitting on the grassy hill; either way, you can't go wrong. Every genre swings through so there's something for everyone.

If a night of classical music is what you're after, spend an evening with the Alpharetta Symphony, the city's resident orchestra. Their schedule of concerts spans classical and popular tunes, so check their calendar, and see what performances strike your fancy.

You don't have to be a jazz aficionado to appreciate the Velvet Note. With a beautifully designed listening room, it is obvious careful attention was paid to every detail within its confines from the seating arrangements to the type of plates used (the food is served on palm leaf plates to minimize the noise while serving and eating food). Dress sharply, order a martini, and take in the finest of tunes.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — An operating group has stepped forward with hopes of bringing an NHL team to metro Atlanta, a release issued Tuesday by the group said, in what marks a second organized effort to reestablish pro hockey in the region.

Alpharetta Mayor Jim Gilvin confirmed the news to 11Alive and sent a release issued by Alpharetta Sports & Entertainment Group. The group is being led by former NHL player and businessman Anson Carter and they said they had made a formal request with the league to "commence an expansion process aimed at bringing an NHL franchise back to Atlanta."

The release did not include specific details about financing but said the group has "received considerable support from county and local leadership" and named insurance company New York Life as a partner in pursuing an arena-centered redevelopment of the North Point Mall site. The release further named Alpharetta Sports Group & Entertainment partners, including Neil Leibman of Top Tier Sports, Peter Simon of Simon Sports and Aaron Zeigler of Zeigler Automotive Group.

If you’ve been following my hockey coverage for the last YEAR this is what I put out last March. Today, a brand new ownership group and location (Alpharetta) has officially put in a bid for #NHL expansion. This is completely separate from The Gathering and their ownership. pic.twitter.com/SXAgkZ1FA4

— Maria Martin (@Ria_Martin) March 12, 2024

The arena, according to the group, would be designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry.

The Alpharetta effort is not to be confused with the one eyeing an NHL team and development deal called "The Gathering" in Forsyth County.

Carter said in a statement with the release that he has "been in dialogue with (NHL) Commissioner (Gary) Bettman since 2019 about an expansion team returning to Fulton County Metro Atlanta market, knowing that NHL franchise decisions are exclusively decided by the NHL Board of Governors."

11Alive's Maria Martin reported last year about the Alpharetta possibility, with Mayor Jim Gilvin saying, "We think it makes sense here."

"The City of Alpharetta is excited for the possibility to be home to NHL hockey, one of the fastest growing and most exciting sports experiences in the world," Mayor Gilvin said in a statement with Tuesday's release.

Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts also had a statement in the release, stating he was "thrilled to support former NHL star Anson Carter's bid to bring a National Hockey League team to Fulton County." You can find the full statements of Mayor Gilvin, Chairman Pitts and Carter at the bottom of this story.

The mayor said they had worked over the last year closely with Carter "and have been impressed with his vision and passion for growing hockey."

The Alpharetta rumors were sparked just a little more than a year ago when ESPN's John Buccigross posted on X about the NHL coming back to Atlanta.

According to Tuesday's release by Alpharetta Sports & Entertainment Group, the North Point Mall redevelopment plans would include "practice and community facilities, alongside a professional-level outdoor stadium for soccer and/or lacrosse" as well as "hotels, a performing venue, an esports facility, and various residential, retail, dining, conference and community spaces."

The group's release additionally promised a "commitment to cultivating a sustainable hockey ecosystem in Georgia" to support youth hockey, collegiate programs and initiatives around inclusivity and accessibility.

"I've lived in Atlanta since 20009, and I have no doubt that the best league in the world will thrive in its return to Metro Atlanta. The ASE Group is a hockey-first ownership team, which will include partners Neil Leibman (Top Tier Sports), Peter Simon (Simon Sports), and Aaron Zeigler (Zeigler Automotive Group), all of whom have a tremendous passion for our sport. I have been in dialogue with Commissioner Bettman since 2019 about an expansion team returning to Fulton County Metro Atlanta market, knowing that NHL franchise decisions are exclusively decided by the NHL Board of Governors. The ASE Group is also delighted to partner with New York Life, a Fortune 100 company and one of the largest life insurers in the world, in the potential mixed-use development at the North Point location in Alpharetta."

"The City of Alpharetta is excited for the possibility to be home to NHL hockey, one of the fastest growing and most exciting sports experiences in the world. Our city is at the geographic center of the fan base in Metro Atlanta. Easy access provided by Georgia Highway 400 and planned expansion of MARTA public transit in Alpharetta, guarantees hockey fans an easy commute and a world class experience. Over the last year we have worked closely with former NHL star player Anson Carter and have been impressed with his vision and passion for growing hockey."

"I am thrilled to support former NHL star Anson Carter's bid to bring a National Hockey League team to Fulton County. The location of an NHL franchise, as currently proposed in Alpharetta, would bring an exhilarating sport to our community's thriving professional sports lineup. I have no doubt the citizens of Fulton County and the Metro Atlanta region will be strongly supportive of professional hockey's return to our region. We are a sports town who has hosted the Super Bowl, NCAA National Championships, and the forthcoming 2026 World Cup. I believe an NHL team will contribute to the already-strong cultural vibrancy of our community, create opportunities for local businesses and further enhance Metro Atlanta's reputation as one of the preeminent sports regions in the country. We look forward to embracing the team and fostering a strong partnership that will enrich the fabric of our area for years to come."
