I am selling this car for some friends here in Southern California.

The 1965 & 66 Mustang Convertible is certainly one of the icons of 60’s classics and appreciating nicely over time. These cars aren’t “outrageously” priced and are great fun to own, drive or show.

This gorgeous Vintage Burgundy Metallic on Black original Convertible is an exceptional completely restored example.

I have been building and restoring cars for the past 40 years and would rate this nicely restored example as a solid #2+ car. My background includes judging exemplary cars at some of the top Concours events in Southern CA over the past 35 years.

The car been stripped and completely repainted at a very high level. The paint is flat and deep with virtually no flaws. It is a two-stage base/clear and I would rate it as a 9.5 out of 10. The body panel fit is very straight for a 1st Generation Mustang and would rate as a 9.5 out of 10. The chassis is unmolested and rust free.

I have taken a magnet to over 100 places on the body and cannot find any evidence of bondo anywhere on the body.

One of the pins in the driver door hinge was bent slightly, we removed the hinge and put in new pins and realigned the door. When I took the pictures and sighted down the drivers side from the rear (see picture #136 in the ImageShack Gallery) the door was sitting out very slightly, after we fixed the door pin/hinge I took another picture up close (picture #137) to show how nicely it aligns now.

This car has been garaged continuously since the restoration work was completed.

Inside this blue oval beaut, a correct and very clean black standard vinyl interior including new seat upholstery. The interior was mostly reupholstered in the early 2000s, which was a period when the reproduction materials were still being manufactured from US shops and the quality is almost identical to the original materials that came in these cars. I owned these cars back in the 70s and know exactly what the materials were like and the quality of this interior is nearly identical in texture, thickness and stitch quality.

The newer reproduction kits from the far east are just fundamentally lacking in quality and craftsmanship in my humble opinion. The dash is loaded with the original gauges and one of those aftermarket “Mustang” AM/FM Radios that fit into the original hole and it works well with good sound quality. The steering wheel and horn/center cap is a newer wood style wheel and in like new condition. The gauge cluster and glovebox are both in very nice original condition.

Mechanically the car has been completely sorted. The car sports a new 302 ci motor with less than 500 miles. The block was hot tanked, bored 10 over, has new pistons, rings, rods have been resized, crank polished, new main and rod bearings. It has a new roller hydraulic Isky cam and lifters. The heads were rebuild with new valves and valve springs. A new high volume oil pump and pickup and new oil pan was installed. The engine has a new Edelbrock dual plane intake manifold and new Edelbrock AVS carburetor with chrome air cleaner. New long tube ceramic headers with a custom exhaust were added. A new Pertronix distributor and coil were included in the build.

The engine is dressed with new chrome valve covers. A brand new aluminum radiator with mechanical fan and all new hoses were installed to complete the engine build.

The C4 transmission was rebuilt along with the converter. A new custom drive shaft was also installed.

New upper and lower A- Arm bushings and front sway bar was installed, along with rear leaf springs and bushings. New radial tires and front end alignment was just done.

This great little Pony car exudes confidence around town or zipping down the freeway at 80 mph. It drives out straight as an arrow with crisp shifting from the C4 trans mated to the nicely built-302. The chassis is solid with absolutely no weird squeaks or sounds and feels like an almost brand new car. The brakes, the rear-end, front-end have all been attended to over the last 500 miles. The car can sit in hot traffic and stays absolutely cool.

There’s just no such thing as an early Mustang that isn’t a great car. Fun to drive, with plenty of power, and striking good looks, even 58 years later, and it’s hard to imagine a better hobby car. The strength of the aftermarket suggests that they are some of the most popular cars in history,

If you are in the Southern California area feel free to stop by and check out this little gem. I am in San Clemente and would be happy to show you the car.
